Summertime Fun--in pictures

Snack time in the Fort!

Picnic on the patio!

Brian and the kids built the 'kid wash'--an idea from Family Fun Magazine. Anything wet is always good!

Been working on the potty training with Ethan... here he's sporting the big boy undies and loving it!

Went to check on Emmy who was helping her dad clean out the sand box.  Found her doing this chore in her bathing suit and fuzzy boots.  No words... and had to take a picture!

The newly modified sandbox--caged in so the neighborhood kitties don't think it's their new toilet!

July 4th Celebrations

We had a great time on July 4th in our small town.
First off, I have to say I'm very proud of our little Sonora... American flags line the street of every major 'American' holiday (Vets Day, Labor Day, etc.)-
-it is very cool.
We met some friends up in Twain Harte and watched their annual parade and then the kiddos had a blast on the water slides. One cool thing they do up there is hand out little flags to all the parade watchers. Makes it super festive and fun for the kids to wave them as the parade passes by.
Then, in the evening, we met up again with some of the same friends to have a little picnic dessert, evening playtime at the park, and firework time.  Calavaras County allows fireworks (unlike our Tuolumne Co.), so we went over the river to Murphy's and the kids loved seeing the little fireworks up close.
Next year, we'll be bringing our own! =)

Farmer's Market

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to walk down to our Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, we've only made it to one so far this summer, but thankfully it'll continue through mid-Oct so we'll have some more opportunities to take advantage of the fresh produce, nice walk and fun time.

We can do it!

(click on image to make it larger)
This has been the summer of bike riding, and today is the day where both Zeke and Emmy 'got' it. I had to work (which was one of the busiest orientation dates that I have been a part of in my short tenure at Columbia College!) so Brian took the kids out to Columbia Elem. School to practice and they both took off! So, Zeke's good with starting, stopping, turning and now just needs to keep practicing. Emmy's good with the riding and stopping, and still needs a bit of help getting started. And little Bubby is a power horse on the scooter! =)

Some good feelings in my kitchen!

I've been doing projects this summer to get our home more user friendly and less frustrating.  One little area that has been a sore spot for me is my 'junk' drawer as well as lack of kitchen utensil space.  I decided to eliminate one side of 'junk' in my divided drawers and make it a space for the needed, but less utilized utensils (say that 10 times in a row).  Mind you, this little project started because things were so full we almost broke the drawer trying to close it, and 3 hours (and many interruptions) later, the results bring peace and happiness to me and my hubby everytime we open the drawers!  I took pictures so we could remember them as they are now... as I'm sure we'll have to repeat organize not so far in the future!
Top: Beautifully sorted 'junk' drawer no so junky anymore and those under utilized utensils
(notice they are mostly baking items--haha).
Bottom: a silverware sorter that I'd had 'junk' in made my most used items easy to see and grab--yea!
